Default g19 motor replacement question

I was told by a local golf cart repair shop that my bearing inside the electric motor need to be replaced, he suggested a new motor would probably be cheaper because of the labor hours involved. Does this sound right, or is this bearing something that I can do myself? Also does anyone know if this motor would fit a G19, cause it is pretty cheap.

D&D 170-501-001a 48 volt
It has a 19 spline shaft
It is a regenerative braking motor

I was also told about rear axle bearings but looking at other threads I should be able to do that myself and save $200 in labor as well.

Thanks for your help in advance

Hello nchoma, I'll be curious to see what your response is here because I have the same cart. Which brand back seat did you go with and are those 10" tires?

Thanks - I did a little research on that motor and I dont think it will be up to par, I just bought the cart with the back seat - looks like a pretty cheap one, wood made, doesnt fold down, but serves its purpose. The tires are 18*11*8's but I am looking to switch them out for some street tires so they are not as loud.

No it doesn't sound right. Except for the rar seat in the way, the motor is fairly easy to remove (3 bolts/4 wires and unplug the speed sensor lead), but it is kinda heavy. My concern on the armature bearing (on the brush plate side) is if it caused unnormal wear on the brushes/armature comutator and if it allowed the armature to hit the feild. Now if you want more speed (your controller should handle it, except for towing and large hills) Hi Torque (now owned by Nivel) made a 23 mph replacement motor and they are great. I can't say what the rear faceing seat (with passangers) would do to the equation. Axle bearings...remove wheel, remove hub, remove circlip, remove and replace bearing and replace. "Cake" as some call it. Good luck on whatever you decide. And nice looking car
