Default Battery specs on a g1

This is my first post. So be gentle

I have been wanting to start a cart project for some time now, but cash is tight. Yesterday I was lucky or unlucky enough to run into someone giving away an electric Yamaha g1. Problem is, no batteries. I noticed these suckers are expensive, and want to make sure I am looking at all the options before moving forward. So for my question: can you use 3 12 volt batteries to power a 36 volt system instead of 6 6 volt batteries? If so what are the benefits and drawbacks of doing so.

Hanks for the help

G1 WOW not to many of them around anymore. It is your choice on battery sets have seen both. Runs the same with 6-6s or 3-12s .

Either set of batteries might add up to 36 volts but your reserve capacity is much more limited with three 12 volt. How far you can travel before charging is much longer with six 6 volt.

I just bought a G1. $500 running but with bad batts. Good luck. They should make good projects.

I bought 6volt rebuilt batteries about 6 months ago and they are holding up well. Cost = $35 each!
Whatever you do, be sure to keep the water (distilled, of course) topped up weekly. Plus, keep 'em on the charger overnight.
