steering
hey ya'lll'
i'm a new poster, although i've been reading this forum as a guest for a while. i have two cart's , a 1980 g1 and and a 2000 g16 for my wife. i need to rebuild the steering on the g16, and already need help!! where do i find a puller for the steering wheel? i am assuming i need one because of the tapered hole on the end of the shaft, and the fact that a dead blow hammer has no visible effect on the removable of the wheel... thanks in advance for any response! jim |

Re: steering
thanks rusty, but after much toil and a few tears, (whacked knuckle with dead blow hammer), i got it off!! i tried the knees against wheel and feet to dash method, the hammer method, and the forearms under the wheel method, etc,no worky. i wound up cutting two slots on each side of shaft for old 2 point puller to go through, put a couple of 1/4 x 1/2 pieces of flatbar to grab onto and tightened until the bars started to bend.
i decided to walk away for a while and let the penetrant i have been putting on work by itself. after lunch, i was fully intending to cut the drive nut off and weld it back later. went out to the shop and put about three more turns on the puller and pyow, it popped loose! after my weak decrepit old heart was beating again, (battery cables to nipples method), i proceeded to remove cowling and fix steering problem in about three minutes.....very anti-climatic end to story. thanks, this is just the beggining, now i need to replace the seals on old gas g1, so i shall return!!! thanks, jim |
