Stock axle wheel stud thread size.
A friend of mine brought his stock, Yamaha 2006 YDRE golf cart over for the common loose rear axle nut. Several of his 1/2"-20 thread per inch custom wheel lug nuts were stripped. The size was labeled right on the chrome nuts. The studs were all fine. Is that the correct size thread? Or is it a metric 12 mm?

Yamaha did use metric studs but, if they say 1/2-20 then by golly that's likely what they are! Maybe somebody changed them out

Re: Stock axle wheel stud thread size.
The custom chrome nuts are labeled, but the studs aren't. 1/2" is slightly larger than 12 mm I'm thinking they just may be the wrong nuts, loosely fitting over stock 12 mm studs. It doesn't look like the hubs are custom, the owner claims only the wheels are custom.

Re: Stock axle wheel stud thread size.
Yamaha "drives" started in 2007. Never, ever have I seen a Yamaha with 1/2-20 wheel studs, alway's been 12mm. 1/2's will feel like they'll work, just not a good thread fit.

Re: Stock axle wheel stud thread size.
I think that's exactly what is going on here, he has 16 of the wrong nuts. I notice they sell a 12-1.25mm at a golf wheel part website. 20 threads per inch equates to 1.27mm. 12 mm equates to .472 inch. So the nuts would fit, but be too big, and then strip. Thanks guys, I'll have him get 16 of the metric nuts.
