Default Need help with diagnostics...PLEASE HELP!

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum so be gentle, lol!

I have a Yamaha G8 that we sent WAY too much power to (had 6-12 not 6- 6 volts)

Anyways we blew something and we are tying to figure out what it is.

Motor test:
S1 to A2
S2 to 12 volt battery positive
A1 to 12 volt batter negative

The motor made a noise like it was turning on then the connections sparked to the 12 volt battery we connected it to.

Not sure if that's good or bad. I just need to find out if I blew the motor, controller or solenoid.

PLEASE HELP! Also I'm in Pacific Beach, CA if anyone's in the area and has some free time!

Thanks!

If you are lucky there is a micro switch in the solenoid activation circuit and it blew first.... Find a wiring diagram for the cart and look for the MS, maybe one at the F&R and another at the Gas Peddle..... Give the controller the sniff test. If it smells burnt .... it is burnt

There is a main fuse beside the solenoid in line with the wiring harness...In addition there are two diode boxes in line that will also need to be checked with a simple cont. test...should only read one way...And scotty I wish that sniff test worked on everything lol

I works on ...... nevermind

Yamaha is good about having those fuses in place, hopefully they did their job..... I'm afraid if 72v got to the controller it will sniff burnt.

Hey scotty...I actually saw an advertisement somewhere for you and was going to call you anyways today after I posted here...how ironic.

After i diagnose this I am in need for some aftermarket parts to make this bad boy go faster.

So I checked the main fuse (10 amp) and (15 amp) by solenoid and both were fine, I also checked the cont. of the diode boxes and they seem to be fine as well.

What else should I do?

Thanks in advance.

You might have to wait for Cameroluv, he is a Yamaha dealer and can probably help you better than I but I did stay in a holiday inn last night, is the solenoid clicking when you try to go? (key on - in gear)

Nice, lol! Yeah I get nothing. No sound no clicking...shes 100% dead!

I've looked all over SD and can't seem to find someone to come look at it either...very frustrating.

You did the motor test and wouldn't run. You check all the safegards and checked ok. 72 volts to a 36 volt solenoid/controller is bad news, the motor may have been able to handle it, but not the other components. I would bench test the solenoid/ pull the motor out and look for burning/"that smell"/ and copper soldier damage (if it's black..."smoked")/ pull the controller and if you shake it and hear a sound like marbles inside, time for a rebuild.
