Default g1 slowly moves-but batteries charged

hi new to forum,

i recently obtained what i think is a 1980 G1E yamaha cart. i havent actually put a load tester on batteries but was told by previous owner that overnite the cart has no powere and batteries are fully charged. any ideas where to start as im new to electric carts. solenoids or controllers that i can check or anything else?

thanks in advance for any help

Always start with load testing batteries...thats almost always the problem with a cart that has no power, running slow...

ok... load tested batteries today and they are slightly weak but only after a heavy load test...... i noticed if i try to move the cart forward or backwards that the coil (reostat)? gets extremely HOT! is this normal or does this help with trouble shooting?
thanks for the help

How do all the cables between the battery's feel? I just purchased a G9 cart and the cables were in terrible shape! First time i tried to make it go it shot sparks everywhere and cooked the cable.

cables are all ok. they looked a lil crusty when i got the cart but i cleaned them and retightned then and same issue. i checked the continuity between post f1 and f2 and the other two post (they arent marked) on the electric motor and had continuity between f1 and f2 and also had contuninty between the other two (unmarked) post but not any other combination. so i got the dc amp meter and checked the amp draw on the cables going to the motor. holding the brake lightly (thats all it takes as it is so weak) and mashing the accelerator it was anywhere between 58 and 69 dc amps. Is this a normal amp draw???? just seems really high to me.... im leaning towards maybe the motor windings are shot causing a high amp draw and thus the coil to get extremely hot???? any ideas?

thanks

Welcome to BGW

you said you load tested the batteries, how did you load test them and what load did you put on them??, and what does -- slightly weak-- mean?, when you step on the go pedal, that motor is going to pull 100's of amps, we need some numbers on the pack volts, and each battery, how old are the batteries, when was the last time you charged them, and are you sure it's a G1, or you don't know? did you let the charger run till it turned off on it's own? how many hours did it take for the charger to turn off??

well i load tested them with a battery load tester- the old style with the heater coil inside that glows red when u load test for around 15 seconds... showed around 6.1 volts unloaded and dropped to 5.5 volts and showed around 170-180 amps on every battery. (slightly weak to me) age really shouldnt matter as long as they all test ok...... i really dont know what you are asking for with pack voltages.....if you will explain i will try and answer. i called yamaha tech line and they confirmed it is a g1 model. as far as the charge on batteries, my charger isnt automatic it is a timer model but i charged them for 12 hours untill charger showed green on meter that indicates full charge......
thanks

do you have a digital voltmeter, you need one to do test on a electric cart, take your DVM and put it on 200 volts dcv, put the red lead of the meter on the main pos + on the battery pack, and the neg _ on your meter, on the neg of the battery pack/all the batteries is the battery pack, 36 volts, tell us what reading you get, after you get the pack reading, do the same thing to each battery, and post the volt readings of each battery, this will tell us what were working with, how old are the batteries?, let us know what you find, if your not sure about something, just ask

Quote
( showed around 6.1 volts unloaded, )
, a fully charged 6v battery will be 6.37 volts

at 6.1 your battery pack is only around 43% charged, you should never run your batteries below 50%, so i would say you have some bad batteries, or your charger is not doing it's job,
but get us some battery readings and we will go form there
