2001 Yam G19 my first cart
Hey I also am new to this forum and just made my first purchase of a 2001 Yamaha g19e Golf cart. Here is the deal the person I bought it off of said he left the charger on for a few months (family emergency)and never thought about the golf cart. So when he checked it the charger was off and some of the battery terminal were corroded. So my question is where do i start, clean the battery terminals and try to charge the batteries or find someone to test the charger and see if it is any good. Any guidance would help.
Thanks |

I would clean the terminals and check your battery cables to make sure they are still good. The charger should have kept the batteries charged unless a cable broke or if power was lost to the charger. If the batteries did sit for a few months with out charge you might have to jump charge the batteries.

Re: 2001 Yam G19 my first cart
Yamaha 48 volt charger won't kick on if the voltage of the battery pack is under 24 volts. If the battery pack voltage is over 24 volts the charger should kick on. If you have 24v and the charger won't kick on there is something wrong with the charger. Now the way we jump charge carts is that we just pull up another 48 volt cart beside it and hook jumper cable from pos to pos and from nec to nec., take the jumper cables off after about 5 mins. If you don't have another cart get a car battery charger and charge each battery by theirself. Discontect the cables from all the batteries before you charge the battery by theirself. Don't leave the car charger on the batteries longer the 10 mins. You are just trying to get the voltage up above 24v where the charger will kick on.

Re: 2001 Yam G19 my first cart
Okay Courtesy I did as instructed and to no avail. I think my batteries have given up the ghost, the most I could get was 17.9 volts, but they won't hold a charge long enough to get over that voltage. On a bright side I hooked up my Yamaha charger and all the lights started flashing but it would never kick over to started the charging process. So it appears my next questions is what kind of battery would you recommend?
You have been a great help I do appreciate the advice |

Re: 2001 Yam G19 my first cart
I have had the best luck out of Trojan batteries. So I think Trojans are the best. I will tell you just like I tell all my customers it all depends on how good you take care of your batteries. You can get other bands of batteries and they can last you a 3 to 4 years if you do 2 things. Keep water in them and keep corrosion off the battery post. I can tell which ones not to buy, they are called Decar or Power Hawks they are good for about a year.
