Default Charging your cart?

OK, so I read the part here about charging everytime a cart is used. . . my question is, the guys at the battery store said we should only charge when the battery gets down to about 1/2 power. . . so why the difference? I know NiCad batteries (like cell phones) should only be charged when the battery is very low, why is this not the same here?

2nd and totally unrelated question, like an idiot, I painted over my yamaha's serial number and model number (it was on a sticker right above the battery bed, and the seat typically covers it up) is there any other place to get the serial number for these dang things? it's kinda hard to learn about 'em when you can't remember what the heck they are! =D

Master...You can talk to 6 different guy's about batteries and will get 6 different awnsers. If you can take a picture of your car and the battery compartment (maybe even your charger) members here could help you. I agree on Nicad's..you should let them discharge, but lead acid deep cycle batteries are a different. I always recommend plugging in the charger after use. Dave

Within reason..We aren't talking about a trip to mailbox and recharge. (unless it is 5 miles to the mailbox) The 1/2 power rule is a good marker. Few people actually know where this is. To know where this is you have to know 36 volts is empty. You have to know what voltage your batteries are at when fully charged and when they hit 1/2 power loss. You will need some testers and a meter installed on the cart. Or you can play it safe and keep them charged up so they are always on the top 1/2 of full

Ok thanks :) Now. . . any ideas as to how to find the serial number again, or at least make sure we know what model (and year) the cart is?

Alas, the wire brush (already tried that) wore the numbers off the sticker. Is it posted anywhere else on the cart? (like a permanent metal imprint)
