Default Stereo Reception

I know there is lots of info on stereo installation etc... on this site but I haven't found an answer to this. I have a 2011 Electric Yamaha Drive with 6 x 8v batteries. It is not a PTV but has all the accesories installed at the dealer. In other words it has a voltage regulator, lights, turn signals, speed chip etc.... I have installed a stereo and connected it to some factory wiring coming off from light switch. My problem is that the stereo gets really bad FM reception. My old cart (gas G14) had great reception. My question is - What is the best way to wire/ground the stereo? I am thinking of adding another voltage regulator (the factory one is really hard to access and I don't want to mess it up) or else running a ground wire to the battery. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Don't know a lot about golf carts, but I know some about radio work. By bad reception, I assume stations are weak. Is there noise (interference) or just weak signals? If it were mine and the receiver was getting the proper voltage, I would forget about the power supplied to it and focus on antenna and RF grounding. What kind of antenna are you using? The antenna may need a ground plane. Some antennas are designed to be used with a grounded metal base. You can experiment with a grounded cookie sheet to find out.

Statements and questions above assume no issues with the radio.

I've tried several different antenas including the one that worked just fine with my previous setup. It's even the same car stereo (Pioneer). I have also tried another stereo so that's not the problem either. The only other possibility is that the stations may have lowered their signal output. However my friends stereo still works fine.

Electric Golf cart might be giving off some noise from the electric motor if it occurs when the cart is moving. Definately run dedicated ground/positive direct to a battery, leave it in cart and hook it up to a completly independent 12v battery and check it, if no problem then you have an issue in the electrical itself. If not than the head unit might be going bad. not sure if there is a good enough ground which may cause interference. Possibly the power you tapped into isnt strong enough for the receivers needs?
