New electric, looking for tips
Hi all,
Have used this forum in the past for help and looking for any tips for a new electric cart owner. I live and work on a golf course, and have so far only used gas carts (g16's for work carts , and 2010 ydra3's for rental carts. Now I am a proud new owner of a 1999 g19 48 volt electric. Bought from a private 9 hole golf course where it received little use (still has all plastic mudflaps attached and unbroken... Odd around here). It has 2010 batteries that hold a good charge and last a good while (although I need to install a battery charge indicator). Basically I am looking for any owner related tips, tricks, hints, ideas, do's and don'ts, or any other help that anyone is willing to give. What kind of battery charge indicator is better LED or "analog"? Thanks very much in advance for any help, it is very much appreciated. Jeff. |

Re: New electric, looking for tips
curtis led energy meter is good (yamaha part number JR1-H351C). distilled water only, and just enough to cover the plates. keep tires properly aired for maximum range. never use the gas pedal to hold on a hill incline, use brakes. keep battery terminals tight and clean, wash frequently but try not to wet the motor controller. if the clear plastic cover over the motor controller is still present, keep it tucked over the motor controller, not laying on top of the batteries. charge frequently after every use, shallow discharges are better than deep discharges.

One more tip: If any connection or cable gets hot, fix it immediately, not "real soon now". Heat is due to a high-resistance situation, and is usually because of a bad connection. A bit of corrosion, not quite tight, bad crimp on a terminal end, or whatever.
