Battery terminal snapped.
Took the 36v yamaha G8 out for about a half hour ride. Everything was fine until everything cut off going up a hill. I open the seat and see that the #5 negative battery terminal has snapped off and is so hot is now melting the top of the battery. The cable itself is also smoking hot. It's the cabel between the #5 and #6 battery. Also the stud that snapped and the bolt were almost a bronze and black color from the heat. I was about 15 minutes away from my site and once it cooled I was able to rig it to get the cart to move. I am back at my site and wondering if its a defective battery terminal and was just hot from barely making contact. The cables are brand new and the batteries are about a month old and have about 12 charges on them. I did not over tighten them at all. Has anyone had anything like this happen. Gonna try and get the battery replaced tomorrow.

Re: Battery terminal snapped.
You had a bad connection to that terminal and it got hot enough to melt the lead. It probably did not "snap" - the lead holding the bolt melted.

Re: Battery terminal snapped.
Ok so it's a bad connection? I bought new cables with the batteries. I've been checking the levels and also making sure everything is tight. The only thing in thinking is the terminal was bad or the cable is bad. Looking at the post terminal that is still partially there it has cracks all the way around the rest of it. I hope they replace this battery since its only a month old. I've been doing my best to try and break these new batteries in properly.

Re: Battery terminal snapped.
Always re-check your battery nuts shortly after installing new batteries, seen this Many times over the years. i dont know why, but new battery terminals "settle-in" when they are first installed. also, if your new batts came with wing-nuts, get rid of those as soon as you can. use real nuts only (preferably stainless steel nuts) they are 5/16" -18 size.

Re: Battery terminal snapped.
Thanks for the info. They wouldn't give me a new battery but sold me one at cost. Paid $65 for it. It did have wing nuts and I now do have nuts and washers. I'm going to replace the cable that got hot also.
