Default Tow switch

Is there a reason why I would put my '04 yamaha in the "tow" mode when storing it in the garage???

Not really. The "run/tow" switch does 3 things. #1-if your car should die and needs a tow or push...use tow position to "cut off" all power to the comupter and this will disable the regenative braking and anti runaway, so you can't damage the motor or the controller. #2-when cleaning battery cables/terminals or any other electrical work...use the tow postiont protecting the computer. #3-in the event your car should stop working....put the switch in the tow position (FOR 5 MINUTES). this will drain all the stored energy out of the computer and I'd say about 75 percent of the time...the computer will reset and you'll be able to run your car again (the computer can "shut down" to protect it's self). Now on to your real question....Since your charger is fully automatic, (leaving it "plugged" into the car at all times when it is not in use) as battery voltage drops over a period of time (days/weeks/month) the charger will turn it self on and off to "top off" the voltage as needed. The only problem is if the "AC" power is interupted...It will never turn on to charge untill the "AC" power is restored and you unplug the DC cord from the car and plug it back in to restart the cycle. Make sence ? The other problem with "fully automatic chargers" , if battery voltage should drop below 44 volts (in the battery set) the charger can not turn on and charge because its computer board doesn't sence its plugged into a car. Lastly...the only reason to put the swith into to tow for storage is a "minute" chance something could effect the computer...if no power is allowed to go to the computer...suposadly it could not be damaged. Hope this wasn't to long and it helped. Dave
