Default DPI charger fail on Yamaha G22

I am 2 days into owning my 1st golf cart. I don't think the charger that came with it is working right. I've browsed this site for hours already learning a ton from you guys. I was wondering if this is common or repairable on my own. The lights when plugged in all blink 2 times then the red power LED wil blink once and then nothing. I've included a video link that I recorded to aide in my discription

My bad the site won't let me link it yet because I'm so new

It is a DPI 48v charger for a yamaha

Thanks guys

It's a smart charger and the cart is new to you so do you think it is recognizing a short? Have you verified wiring is correct. No loose connections.

The cart runs very strong and there are no loose nuts or wires-

The previous owner told me this morning that he thinks lightning hit his building and fried some things. The charger was plugged in, in the building. With that said are there fuses in the charger or something that I could replace to make it work?

what is the battery pack voltage if it is too low the charger may not come on.
also I believe the transformer should put something on the order of 54 volts out. there are also two diodes and a capacitor to check. if all those pieces check out okay it could be the board

This charger is different, you are referring to what is called a "ferroresonant" charger. This DPI charger is equipped with 2 a SCRs (silicon controlled rectifier) instead of diodes. And does not use a capacitor for transformer "tuning". A SCR type charger has more control of the charge voltage and amp output rates, allowing 5 or more stages of control logic to modify the charge cycle. These SCR style chargers are capable of treating your batteries much nicer than the old style chargers. I, when describing them, sometimes compare them to series and sepex motors, series systems are typically most robust, while sepex has much tighter control. I would look at the charger label to see what model # & what software version. You might be dealing with something as simple as a non working 110v outlet (did you check that, the charger lights will still activate without 110v present). The relay may be bad (yamaha OEM DPIs have one, most other DPIs do not). The control board could be bad, when i have seen the fuses on the control boards bad, the board also had a catastrophic failure (that you could clearly see). I have seen only 2-3 bad DPI transformers in the 5+ years i have been using DPIs. You can also contact dpi, they are quite helpful. If you contact them, have all your voltages and info, and your charger handy.

Thanks cgtech, I will contact them soon, the seller actually ordered me a new charger today and is having it shipped to my door. In the mean time if have read somewhere at sometime that I could use a regular 12v battery charger ( like one for a car) to charge my batteries so they don't get too run down. I think I read that as long as I linked all positives together and all negatives together and charge it that way then it would be fine. Is this in fact true?

I did check the 110 outlet and even plugged it in to 3 separate ones on 3 separate circuits . I was trying to eliminate all error on my part before I asked for help.

You could do them one at a time in the cart, all the cart wiring could stay connected (this is what i would suggest, safest & easiest but not fastest). Or you could do as you described, but you would need to remove all wiring, and carefully connect all "+" together, and all "-" together with at least 12ga wire and you will want to use a setting of 20 amp on the charger or lower. BE CAREFUL, there is enough energy in the batts to burn you, damage your cart/batteries, or start a fire.
