Default 2007 YDRE axle grind

Had an 07 electric brought to me today for repair. Forward and reverse gives just a straight grind. It sounds like it's in the chunk, however my knowledge on cart rear ends in minimal as I mostly work with the electrical issues. I know auto rear ends, but have no idea what I'm in for in a cart. Anyone care to point me in the general direction?

Thanks

Look for "white tag" on rib on passenger side axle tube. White tag had bad gear that will always be the problem in the axle. Yellow tag, blue tag, green tag were all good.

I figured that if I can do lockers and car axles this shouldn't be that hard....so I just opened up the service manual and dove in. Now, I haven't checked to see which tag it has, however I would have to assume this was a manufacturing defect caused by crap metal. I've never seen a gear just disintegrate like this without having a cause, and I couldn't find anything that would have caused this.

Also, the parts for this rear end are priced somewhere just north of the stupidsphere. I mean really, axles that are $500 each? It's cheaper to get a whole rear end used.

Thats the gear, and, thats a "white tag" axle... 8(..... Watch out, that crud is sharp enough to slice your fingers up real good (ask me how i know!). I dont speak for yamaha or team when i say this, but, yep thats crap metal. The other versions of that axle never do that. The best thing is to get a whole new axle, every gear, every bearing has been eating that metal shaving crud since it started to wear down.

That's exactly what I'm in the process of doing. Ordered a rear end from a guy over near huntsville AL....*********** I think it's called. They have a good used supply I guess. But after seeing what the axles alone go for, ordering anything other than a complete used assembly seems cost prohibitive.

Dont buy a used "white tag", you would be throwing away your money. In a "white tag" axle, its not matter of IF that gear fails, its a matter of WHEN.

Huge props to cgtech for this advice. I just purchased a 2008 after reading about this issue the day before I went to look at the cart. Took a minute in the dirt but it was Yellow! Owe you one!

Hey Cgtech,

I've got my 2007 YDRE in front of me and I can't find any tag. Can you upload a photo of where I can find it?

Thanks,

TJ
