Default My 1980 G1e Project Cart

So, for a bit of backstory. I have never owned a golf cart before, but after being bored one evening and browsing craigslist, the thought crossed my mind. One thing led to another and I ended up finding one that I was interested. Short and simple ad, "For Sale, golf cart, want it gone."

So I went and looked at it, it was an electric cart, buried in the back of a barn, hadnt moved in quite a while. After a bit of haggling I bought it from the guy for $160.

The pan for the drivers seat rotted out, I do have it though.

Now, given that I had no experience with carts I had no idea what I had. A couple of hours of searching though showed me that I have bought a 1980 Yamaha G1e 36v electric cart. I pulled the batteries out of my camper, and after cleaning up some contacts a bit, I have the thing running well.

Which leaves me here. One thing that kind of surprised me was how slow it is, this thing tops out around 13mph on level ground. Reading around this seems pretty typical, although slower than I had expected.

My questions are basically this. Is there any way to make an electric cart faster, without spending much? Is a 48v conversion possible/a good idea? I had an idea to hook 3 alternators up in series to a small engine to get 36v and a basically unlimited range, has anyone done that before? Is this cart a good purchase, or am I better off fixing it up a bit and selling it for something else.

Also, final question. If I were to fix this up, repair the cracks in the fiberglass, new paint, fix the seat and diamond plate the floor, dash and sides, basically make it look nice, how much is it realistically worth?
