Default wleding cable reasoning?

is there a specific reason that most are using welding cable, as opposed to other large cable??

usually welding cable is the cheapest large cable you can buy. Plus you can buy in bulk and make your own cables

The reason I use welding cable is the high strand count. And we all know amps travel on the outside of a wire not the inside . So the more stands the more outside surface hence......You guessed it, the more amp carrying capacity!

Don't bother with 2 guage. 4 guage will be more than you need.

Which welding cable should I buy?

http://www.bakersgas.com/weldingcable.html

If my 1989 and 1991 are still factory cables, are they 2 gauge?

Stay away from the audio cable. The insulating jacket is not rated for the acidic environment.
