battery guage
Hi all. Second post on here. Lots of good info. I have a 48v txt and would like to have an accurate "fuel" guage. One for my pack and one for my winch accessory battery. I currently have one of the analogs with the green zone and it stays in the over charge and is about dead I believe midway through the green. Not liking that. Plus not a fan of how it drops alot when I floor it. I was looking at the dual pros but would like some of yall input. They said it calculates some sort of acdrage so it doesnt drop when running hard. Not sure how true that is. I am in a wheelchair so can't walk back home. Most accurate is important to me. Thank yall for help

Re: battery guage
Install a digital voltage meter with a switch or install 2 DVM as once you learn to read voltage they are great at telling you how "full" your battery bank is... They are also great for trouble shooting as as as judging overall pack strength while under load. Can also be useful during the charging process too... This gets my vote...

Re: battery guage
I was just actually looking at the Datel guage on carts unlimited. Are those pretty good? Is a switch necesary or would it hurt to just have it lit all the time. We ride and charge daily

Re: battery guage
Have the digital meter from Scotty on mine. I like mine on all the time, when walking by you know what your charger is doing.

Re: battery guage
Both meters on my site are very reliable and accurate. Both are waterproof and reverse polarity protected. Both will show you the pack voltage drop under load. This is an important feature to monitor. These low spike readings are actually a load test reading of the pack. The meter goes right back up when the load is removed. These meters sample pack voltage 3Xs a second. I hope this helps.

Re: battery guage
The draw is absolutely tiny on these little gauges and can be left on 24/7 my comment for the switch was so the one gauge could watch both the 48 and 12 volt batteries as well as providing an all OFF position....

Re: battery guage
Any DPDT rocker switch with center off can be used to monitor 2 packs and turn the meter off when not wanted.

Re: battery guage
Scottyb thank you for the info. Can you answer a couple questions for me. 1. What is the main difference in the 2 that you have listed on your site. 2. Would I go off the chart you have on the meter page as to the charge percentage. Thanks for the help

The datel is an industrial duty meter. The other is an inexpensive copy. Both are good meters. Both meters are being tested them under continuous outdoor use for years enduring heat, cold, & rain without a failure. If I understand the question, you ask if under load reading would go off the bottom end of the chart. No, under load should not read lower than 1 battery removed from the pack. So, 30v for a 36v pack and 40v for a 48v pack. |
