Default Series motor question

Hey all,

I am thinking about refurbishing my current 48V series motor this winter. My thought is to rewind the stator, using a heavier guage wire and less turns.

My assumption is this would provide a bit more torque, as well as increase speed.

Is my assumption correct here?

Thanks!

from racing slot cars at a semi-pro level [$$]
yes that was the standard hot set up
more current use is the down side and heat
we used silver wire for less resistance but $$$

brushless DC is the buzz in the model world now
do they scale up to cart size I wonder ?

You can get brushless motors that size, but from what I have read, no one is making the ESCs for them. I run all brushless setups on my RC trucks & Helis and love the performance. I really do not see a need for that level of speed with a golf cart, though. At least not in the recreational sense.

To combat the heat I was thinking I could make a coil around the motor with copper tubing, and hook it to a water pump/reservoir for a water cooling setup. As long as I did not run it for more than an hour at a time, which I never have thus far, I would be able to keep it pretty cool.

I think I am going to give it a try. If I screw it up, I should still be able to preserve the core and send it out to be redone by Plumb Quick or EMP.

Does anyone have any idea how think of a guage wire I can take it to?

al or copper fins could work if it gets hot
maybe add a fan pointed at the motor

what gauge is the current wire ?
what size do the Plumb Quick or EMP use in their HOT motors ?
copy them in gauge and turn count if they will tell you ?
going up size 2 or 3 in gauge from stock may work just a guess [down # = up size in wires]

A fac could be done very easily. I will have to watch and see my temps to best determine how to proceed. I have a few ways to monitor them.

I highly doubt that either company will tell me how they do it as that is their business.

Has anyone taken apart a plumb quick bandit made from a club car series motor that would know the guage wire used?
