Default Volt 48v 2kw average mileage?

Hey folks. I’ve been lurking for a while. I’m now to the point that I’d like to replace my club car DS batteries, and I am enjoying the thought of lithium.

Most of the folks I see are running two at 48v to increase the AHs for driving longer distances. Is this necessary for a cart that will never see more than 10 miles before a charge? Most drives are 5 miles round trip at most.

The cost is attractive, even when buying a new charger and BMS setup, for a single 48v pack, but that attraction goes away when pricing two.

Thanks for any input!

I bought just 1, and it seems sufficient, but adding the second one is likely for me. I like the thought of more range.

I just got my pack up and running and I was thinking I would need 2 packs in parallel, but I did a test run yesterday and got 6+ miles on 25% discharge. I've done several rounds of golf and I could easily get 2 rounds. It sounds like for your use 1 pack is going to be fine.

Thanks folks!

Blfinche, how far down do you usually let your battery pack go before charging?

I don't think I've got below 60% yet.

Awesome. Thanks for you insight.

Thanks folks, I'll be ordering a pack this week. Does anyone have a preferred vendor on eBay?

How full are you charging from the start?

I combined two Chevy Volt modules to make a 14S pack. That gives me 58.8v if fully charged to 4.2vpc. I heard that full charges will dramatically reduce the life of the pack, so I've been charging to 4.1vpc or less. I have not done a mileage test yet either.

I did some more testing and I get 1.7 miles for every 1.2v drop.

I have built in margins so I only charge to 4.1vpc (57.4v) and only discharge to 3.25vpc (45.5v).

Using the fuzzy math calculator my pack will drop 11.9v on a max distance run, divided by 1.2 and multiplied by 1.7 means I should have 16.8 miles on a charge... I would have to guess that even if there are other considerations I should still get 15 miles on a charge.

I used chevy volt cells in a 14S pack. The common 48v module is 12S, so I don't know how useful this is for 12S pack carts.
