alltrax programming: throttle, torque and speed curves
Hello all,
My cart is quite jerky now that it is 400 lbs lighter and higher voltage. On my Alltrax FNKS switch I turned down the throttle response rate for personality 2 and 3, that helped some but now it feels like it is lagging in the midrange. What throttle/torque/speed curves have you used and do you like yours? What I am hoping for is smoothness when under 8mph, vibrant acceleration between 8 and 23 and still want to reach 30+. Currently it does all that except for the smooth under 8mph part in normal mode. In the other personality modes it is sort-of smooth under 8 and is just OK accelerating to mid 20's. While the wheelies are fun sometimes, it isn't a good option for the passengers or younger drivers. This is the first Alltrax I have ever had, so any suggestion is appreciated. Thanks, Bronsonj Oh, cart details. TXT48 converted to Chevy Volt lithium cells that I have limited to 57.6v. 23" tires, lift, rear seat (and seat belts...), Alltrax XCT300, stock motor, stock gears. |

Can you post pics of your settings and curves?

Re: alltrax programming: throttle, torque and speed curves
There has been some talks on the Club Car side about making a sticky for Alltrax Controllers since they are a pretty popular replacement Controller.
This would also be a good topic since there is so much unintentional misinformation and suggestions based on data that is not generic. Every cart has a different curve, even if they have the same motor and tire diameter since the curves are based on your maximum RPM for that particular mode. This is actually a shortcoming of the existing Alltrax software, the curves should either be dynamically scaled for RPM, which means You would need to indicate the base RPM for which the curve was set or have a different curve for each mode. The best way to start is for You to use the "Speed Calculator" on the tool bar and figure out your speed at the maximum RPM set for the mode You are trying to get the smooth throttle. If You maximum speed is say 33mph at 6,000rpm, then your 8mph would happen at the 25% speed curve mark (vertical axis of the graph). What is the linearized throttle position (horizontal axis) that correspond to that 25%? That would show you how aggressively the cart is trying to change speed or torque around that speed. Here is the curve I am currently using with 18" tires and 6,000rpm limit (XCT 500 w/stock ADC motor): |

Re: alltrax programming: throttle, torque and speed curves
I'll try to grab screen shots tonight when I get home.
I do know I set my max at 5700 rpm in the Alltrax software which gets me to 31.7mph, in papa-bear mode. I think I have it set to 4800 rpm max in mama-bear mode and 3300 in baby-bear mode. This means for my cart 8 mph would be around 825 rpm. I set the throttle response rate down to 15% or 20% in baby bear mode and I think it is 25% in mama bear. 45% in papa bear. But I am not positive on the percentages. These numbers don't mean anything until I get the corresponding graph from the Alltrax controller. I'll get that tonight to post. |

Did You get a chance to do a screen grab of your speed and torque curves?

sorry, been tied up at work and at home with family duties. I'll grab the screen shots, I've just been side tracked.

Re: alltrax programming: throttle, torque and speed curves
Sorry about the delay. Finally grabbed all the info. Attached are the throttle linearization, speed/torque curves then the settings for each user on the FNKS.
In the 'Normal' mode for the kids I had to set the throttle rate all the way down to 12.5%. But this creates a problem in reverse as I set it down to 30% max speed. The reverse speed is right but the throttle rate as 12.5% of 30% causes it to take a while to back up. Going forward 12.5% is perfect for them. So I think I am trying to fix the lurchiness issue with the wrong setting or possibly I should use throttle rate along with something else? |

Re: alltrax programming: throttle, torque and speed curves
For the kids settings, if you like the throttle rate at 12.5%, then why don't you up the reverse speed % to something like 75% or 80%? Slower than the forward speed, but you have "slimmed down" the forward to begin with.

Re: alltrax programming: throttle, torque and speed curves
But then the reverse max speed would be 75% of the forward speed.
The cart is nice and mellow for the kids in forward but is downright lethargic in reverse. Maybe that's as good as it'll get? |

If you change the reverse to 75% of forward speed, then the cart will go in reverse at 75% of the forward speed.....much higher than 12.5% that you have it set at now. |
