club cart 4x4 with 2 speed rear.need more speed
ok guys I am new to carts but no dummy.i came across a electric cart that was built by imaginative manufacturing .the cart has a d&d motor and a alltrax controller.the cart also has a 2 speed rear end and is also 4x4 using a Polaris front diff.the problem Is that it is way slow.high gear is maybe 12mph and low gear is like 5 mph.these upgrades that it has should make it faster than that I would think.so my question is what should I ckeck first and how.i just put brand new Trojan batterys in it today.the cart is a club car .I believe it was build back in early 2000s so it is a old build.

4x4 means it was probably built as a hunting buggy. Never intended for speed but probably aimed at hill climbing torque. Do you have any documentation regarding the ratios of your two speed rear end?

I do not have and idea what gears rear has,it feels like high is prob close to stock and low is real low.i do need to climb hills with it so I am going to try it out tomorrow and see if it will go up in high.it feels like it has plenty of power in high and low will just be overkill.

Should be 20:1 low and 10:1 high.
If it has an alltrax, hook it up to your computer to see what the motor rpm is set to. Sounds way too slow for the capabilities. |

Also, considering it was meant to be a torque monster, what's the model number on the D&D motor?

Re: club cart 4x4 with 2 speed rear.need more speed
thanks guys .I did see a tag on the motor but I havnt looked at it yet.i have it loaded to take to my property today to climb some hills.i want to see if it builds any heat climbing in high range.i also tried to look at controller to see if it is programmable but it is mounted in a tough spot to get to.i did run serial number on cart to find it is a 1996 club car ds.i think he built these in early 2000s so it is probably a older controller.i will check motor when I get back tonight and post what I can find.

Yes. This motor, along with the whole setup is likely focused on torque. My hunting buggy has a D&D motor on it as well. I'm not interested in speed.....but this motor will either lift the front end up going up a hill....or just break loose the dirt to get wheel spin.....and then "bounce" if I don't back off!!

Re: club cart 4x4 with 2 speed rear.need more speed
If high is 10:1 that's a higher ratio than stock already. What size tires are on it?
If it's 18" tires then 3600 rpm at 10:1 would get you 19mph. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/speed-calculator.php I really have no idea what the RPM limit is for a stock cart, but larger tires can help. Most motors are fine spinning to 6000 rpm, I have my stock motor rpm limit programmed at 5600 max. But a torque motor may be more limited in the RPM range. Also, how is the power sent to the front wheels? Does the output from the motor go to a transfer case? You may have additional gear reduction in the transfer case if there is one. This would be neat to see some pictures... |

Well that's pretty slick! The price is a bit steep, but cool none the less.
