Oh, I get it now - you probably thought 1A rating of the diode is the amount of current it will draw given its resistance. That's max current that can be going through it without damaging it. I believe diodes don't have constant resistance, and will change their properties based on voltage/current, so they can't be used as resistive loads.

Given starting 7.9v, if one say wants to draw 1A, that's 7.9Ohm load. For 5A that will be 1.58Ohm. That also means 7.9W and 39.5W respectively, which requires some decent size resistors to deal with the heat.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to run the capacity using the ZEVA BMS on the pack. That will give me what I'm looking for.
