Alltrax settings for battery saving
Yes I have Alltrax 500amp n running 2 Chevy volt batteries, custom motor. What would be good settings to get most outta batteries on a single charge? I use golf cart for hunting

Post a monitor file so we can see how the system is running. Collect the file while duplicating the terrain & loads similar to the hunting activity.

Re: Alltrax settings for battery saving
I am assuming you have a sepex cart and not a series...
You'll have regen which is good as it recharges your battery. (I think this is right....) The "plug braking current" is basically shorting the current from the motor to cause it to slow the cart. If the motor is spinning fast enough to create electricity in regen mode that is greater than the V of your pack, it'll send the power to the pack. If it is less V than the pack it can't do that and will use the setting in your plug braking section and dump that power in the form of heat. Increased air pressure in your tires will help normally, but I don't know how well that will translate to an off road situation. More speed induces more resistance. So limiting your max speed by limiting your motor RPM will reduce wind resistance and help some as well. Beyond that, I don't really know and I'm not too sure I know what I said about plug current... But from what I read online I think that's right. |

Re: Alltrax settings for battery saving
Just a few notes, "Plug Brake" is actively powering the motor on the opposite direction than it is turning, the controller uses the throttle to control the power the motor uses to stop the rotation and start turning in the opposite direction.
It is more of a Series cart feature but as it relates to the XCT controller it is only used when You are stopped on a hill heading up, let your foot off the brake and the cart starts to roll backwards. The "Plug Braking Current" setting controls how much power the Controller will use to stop the cart and move forward, if You set it to low the cart will just run backwards even if you press the pedal all the way down. I have mine set to 250 amps. The earlier Regen systems could only generate voltage above the batteries when the cart was traveling above 11mph, once the cart slowed down the only way to provide additional brake was using "Dynamic Brake" which means whatever current the motor was still able to produce at whatever voltage was dumped into an internal Controller resistor in order to dissipate and provide braking force. Starting with the Excell controllers and the Alltrax XCT, the system is much better and can deliver Regen current to the batteries to almost 0mph. It does that by using a motor like a "buck" system where it pulses the Armature and releases the energy using PWM to the batteries. As far as saving battery the only settings that make any difference are the "Battery" settings. You can set the Armature current to 500 amps and the Battery current to 250 amps and the Controller will allow the Motor to use 500 amps at low speed as long as the PWM level keeps the battery current below 250 amps. You should also set your Controller minimum voltage cutoff above your pack minimum voltage so the controller can automatically reduce the battery current if the pack voltage gets close that value during hard acceleration. |

Re: Alltrax settings for battery saving
Thanks Sergio for stepping in with correct information. I really didn't know the XCT could still regen at low speeds, that's good to know.
