35in tires and needing upgrades
my stretched golfcart is currently running 21-25mph on a 20" lift with 35" mickey thompson claws. the higher speed is due to how tall the tires are but i have no low end torque and i was wanting to know if i would be able to run the raptor electric motor so that the cart still remains fast but will i gain in low end torque and with running either the raptor or the beast, will i need over 400amp? will a 650 be needed or not nesscisary

Re: 35in tires and needing upgrades
The Raptor is a high-speed motor so your low end will probably go down and amp draw will go way up. The Beast would be a better choice although some folks have reported no more low end and less top end. I don't know why this is; I was not able to personally diagnose these setups.

Re: 35in tires and needing upgrades
thanks for the advice and yes this cart is serious ha its a stretched 93 marathon which has over a 20in lift on 35s. im just wondering if i can get the raptor which is a high speed motor and make up the lost torque by making it 48v and adding a 650amp controller? anyone have any experience on this or know if this may work?

Re: 35in tires and needing upgrades
we use and sell the Advance DC 7/11 motor 7hp 36v and 11hp 48 volt with the 650 alltrax controller.. thats more and enough torque .. you can always add more voltage too

Re: 35in tires and needing upgrades
I think a Raptor would be the worst motor to go with, a Bad Boy has more low end torque than a Raptor and it is more "high speed" than I would recommend. Both the Raptor and Bad Boy will generate torque but require lots of amps. It takes more voltage to push these amps. I pulled a progressive sled at the 06 Bonanza with 27" tires and a Bad Boy motor but I had a 1200A controller and a 120V battery pack. To answer the question, yes it is possible to get torque from the Raptor. The new question is, are you ready to feed such a motor to get this kind of performance.

If you wont speed & torque then you need to go AC. The Raptor & the Beast are two of the best DC motors that money can buy. But nether one can hang with the AC motor. With the 35'' tires you need alot of torque. A 48-volt AC motor can produce 84lbs of torque. A torque DC motor will give you around 35lbs,of torque. The AC systeam will cost a little more up front but alot cheper at the end. For the past two years I have ran off of 4- 12-vollt Odyssey batteries. |
