4 gauge Cables
I am a newbie here so please be patient with me. I have been reading lots of threads on here trying to learn before posting, so I wont sound like an idiot. I was reading about the welding cables and some of the posts are just over my head. Will it help my 36 v club car to just change the cables to 4 ga? There are 4 ga cable sets on ebay for $17.00.
The set is 5 cables. If I changed my conntroller to a higher amp controller, Is it necessary to change all the cables, including the ones that go to the controller and motor? So far I have learned that I should change my coils to solid state and get a higher amp controller and change the cables. |

Re: 4 gauge Cables
If you change the cables you should do all of them, battery, motor, F/R switch and controller cables. Changing to a controller cart is not difficult but you do need to know basic series wound motor wiring and how to mount and calibrate your throttle box to your throttle travel.
If your old cables are getting hot you will see a little improvement with cable upgrade, if your existing cables are not showing heat then you probably won't see a gain. |

Re: 4 gauge Cables
Keep in mind wih ebay and anything else...."You get what you pay for". If those are the same quality cables like walmart carries they aren't worth a crap. If they are finely stranded (600+ count) thats ok but if the cable is made up of 10-15 smaller wires its not very good.

Re: 4 gauge Cables
Yes chengine the any amount of the cables is helpful.
Change out as many as you can, or all of them prefered. I haven't changes all of mine yet, but improvements were made with the ones that I have changed (all of the batteries, negative to the controller, and the positive to the solenoid) |
