Increase HP or Rear Gears???
I have a '91 2HP 36v EZGO limo my son and I are reconditioning this summer and I need to know if I change the motor from a 2hp to 6hp, do I need to change the controller? Or should I just go for a higher rear gear ratio and stay with the 2hp motor? This carts needs to go fast!!!
Thanks |

Re: Increase HP or Rear Gears???
I would change the controller and upgrade to 48v first. If you need more then change out your motor.
You gave no specs on the 6hp motor, but if it doesn't turn higher rpms than stock you will gain no speed, just more torque. |

Re: Increase HP or Rear Gears???
I now need to back up and figure why my cart no longer runs. Thanks for the replys but it seems I am back at ground zero. I lost all power!!!! I reviewed the threads within the electrical postings and found my solenoid may have been wired incorrectly be previous owner. Not sure. My batteries test out at 36.5v and I don't know how to test the solenoid. I assume it tests out a 0v then gains as the accelorator is opened up???? HELP

Re: Increase HP or Rear Gears???
36.5 is an empty battery pack. That reading is 50% capacity. Right where the manufacture reccommends recharging... The solenoid will show full voltage. What speed control system do you have? Resistor or solid state controler?

Solid state system. Typical with the marathon series cart from early 90s.

Re: Increase HP or Rear Gears???
Let me tell you I assume it is a solid state since my last marathon was. Here are some pictures for you to look over.

Re: Increase HP or Rear Gears???
Thats one hell of a wheelie
Actually if the cart is on jackstands, that is OK, that is caused by gearing in the differential. See if both wheels spin freely by hand, you may have rear brakes out of adjustment...In the perfect world both wheels should spin, but if the brake on one side is too tight, just the looser wheel will spin |
