Which Batteries for.....

Hi all,

I am going to be doing a complete change over (batteries, controler, motor)

I am gathering info. at this point.
I have NO experience with carts so Please "slap me in line" if I need it.

I have been looking at battery specs and they seam to mesure by Volts and Amp Hrs. Delivery.

For comparison from 6, 8, and 12 volt options, i have converted this into "watts".

The comparrison:

6V Battery 120 AH @75 amps= 450watts for 2 hrs delivery= 900 Watts/hr
8V Battery 120 AH @56 amps= 448watts for 2 hrs delivery= 896 Watts/hr

I didn't find data for 12V yet.

This tells me that the these 2 batteries will deliver about the same energy out put. (duration of power per charge) at a given draw.

IE: a 72V pack(6X12) at 15MPH will travel about ar far as a 36V (6X6) at the same speed.

Yes?

2X the power and the same milage? Wouldn't a 36V cart travel 15 miles @ 15 MPH, and a 72V travel the same 15 Miles at 30MPH.

Yes the run time for the 72 would be half, but the distance traveled would be the same??

I know that this is over-simplfied and the comparison is not directly linier

I'm gonna throw this in the mix.

DC motors are more efficient at higher voltages. If you had the same amount of AH capacity for 72 volts as you did 36 theoretically you could travel further on a single charge. But keep in mind things like weight of the battery pack, wind resistance, etc,, etc, LOL!
