Default Acceleration of a Golf Cart motor.

I am trying to work out some spread sheets to help me estimate speed using different wheel sizes.

Does anyone know a formula for this?

I mean I can figure top speed.

max motor rpm / gear ratio * tire circumfrance / 12 inches * 60 / 5280 feet.

but I don't know how long it takes a motor to ramp up.

I know most carts reach top speed in less than an eigth of a mile.

Cheers

The only thing with trying to figure it is that it all depends on the charge of batteries, controller settings and how much loss you have in all the connections. Every run would...could be differant.

ok,
I have found some formulas to kinda help with the prob.
And I think I have a torque graph of the motor I want to use.

Just wondering if anyone has any guesses to this or if I am just shooting in the dark here and I should post what I find?

Speed (mph) = (rpms of motor x radius of tire) / (gear ratio x 16

15:1 (Higher Torque) Gear Ratio

10.714 mph = (3000 x 9) / (15 x 16 = (27,000 / 2,520)

12.5: 1 (Stock) Gear Ratio

12.857 mph = (3000 x 9) / (12.5 x 16 = (27,000 / 2,100)

8.0:1 (Higher Speed) Gear Ratio

20.089 mph = (3000 x 9) / (8 x 16 = (27,000 / 1,344)

6.0:1 (Highest Speed) Gear Ratio

26.786 mph = (3000 x 9) / (6 x 16 = (27,000 / 1,00

use an 8 to replace the smile face.

Ya i know how to figure that fun stuff.

what iam trying to figure out, is how fast the motor gets to full rpm?

I know it has to deal with what kind of charge is on the batteries so on and so forth. Just didn't know if there was a general rule of thumb.

thanks for the help guys.

Another thing is the ramp up on some controller's are programable too! Depending on the type motor and how it is setup will effect it to so the same motor in two differant carts is going to act totally differant.

You could probably calculate that off the amperage draw at different rpm's. The load on the motor would change the figures. I think it could be calculated but would only apply to the one cart measured and exact twins.
Well, maybe not.

oh believe me I have found tons of formula's on motor acceleration etc. Just wondering if anyone out there is as big of a geek as me :)
