Tachometer?
Anyone know if you can put a tach on an electric motor? If so, where can it be bought?
Thanks |

Re: Tachometer?
HEY K,
I think it might depend on your motor. I believe GarageBuilt has a tach with his ac system but I think it has to to with his controller. I would check with the people that make your motor/controller to see what they might have. Cheers Nick |

Re: Tachometer?
I have sent a email to a company that makes them for regular tach's for bigger dc motors.
to see if they could make one for a golf cart of it they know of someone who might. I also saw a pdf of someone that used a dc motor to make a tach, or i should say used the regen ability of a dc motor to make a tach. Do i don't know if what the suggested would work on a golf motor. I will keep looking. |

Re: Tachometer?
well it was looking promising. It was a magnet deal the goes on the shaft of the motor etc.
then he said he wanted 500 bucks for it. oh well. |

Re: Tachometer?
A tach for a 4-cylinder 4-stroke gas engine gets two signals every crank rotation. Put two magnets on a motor shaft and set your automotive tach to 4-cylinder. Mounting the magnets and sensor will be the part that requires skill but it is cheaper.

www.advantagemotorsports.com http://www.advantagemotorsports.com/PDG.htm They can even build one for the electric golf cart. It can keep data on the battery pack -Volts -Amps- Motor- RPM's- & a lot more. It depends on what you wont, VS what you will pay for it. |

Re: Tachometer?
A simple prox switch to read the fan blades would work. I am an electric forklift tech and that is how alot of our motors are. The trick is getting a contoller that has the ability to input and decifer the count. I am sure that a digital tachometer for a Car could be converted to work.
Easier to get a motor controller that is programamble so you can limit rpm automatically to prevent slinging a motor apart. |
