86 Club Car 36v to 72v ??
My dad has a resistor club car that the previous owner converted to 72v. Due to issues after part throttle driving we are going to convert to an Alltrax 7245 controller and Curtis PB-6 with a Czonka relay. My question is, do I need to do anything with the F/R switch? It doesn't appear that there is really anything else in the 72v circuit. I just want to be sure we have everything we need before I travel. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

as long as they got the upgraded f and r switch when they did the 72v upgrade you should be good to go. If not I would look to pick one up.

I would go to a SW202 switching contactor if I were you.

What cables are you running? There is a Heavy Duty F&R available which is recommended at that voltage

Re: 86 Club Car 36v to 72v ??
Not sure what cables he's running, but he said they look new. Figured I'd evaluate when I get there(cart's in FL, I'm in NC, going down Thanksgiving week). Plan to bring my welding cable crimper and go get welding cable of the appropriate size, if needed. Is there a part number for the HD F&R switch? I see a lot for 90 and newer, but not so much for 86.
Pardon my ignorance, I play with 480 VAC regularly, and have played with DC in the 300 volt range in my misspent youth (military) but golf carts are kind of new to me. Just hoping to have the stuff that'll need to be ordered in place as I only have about 3 days to try and get it sorted out. Thanks for the responses. Don |

I have only seen it from aftermarket nivel # 5770 it will have 2 mocroswitches on it ..... just use what you need.
Maybe somebody else has some suggestions for a HD 72v CC F&R ? |

Re: 86 Club Car 36v to 72v ??
Just called Plum Quick motors/Steen.
I am going to call back in about an hour and talk to either Carson or Robby. I talked to the motor man. hahaha. But they have done 72v carts for people and themselves so I am sure they have a source. I am going to do a 72v cart also in the future so I am interested in this also. Cheers Nick |

A SW202 reversing contactor would definately be the way to go. You use a rocker switch sort of like on a newer style cart with a the rocker switch that goes from fwd to rev and vica versa. On the D&D web site and also some other web sites they have a diagram on how to hook one up. You completely get rid of the HD fwd and rev switch the slide left to right and that cheesy contact setup. The spring gets weak in the regular fwd and rev switch and the copper contacts get dirty and it can be a problem area for powerloss and heat build up. The sw 202 REVERSING CONTACTOR completely gets rid of that problem. Maybe someone more knowldgeable than me will come along with better info on it. |

Re: 86 Club Car 36v to 72v ??
No doubt that the solenoids are the way to go, but I'm already spending more than the banker was ready for him to spend. May even try the existing switch for awhile as he is able to do simple electrical but not quite ready to swap from resistor to controller solo. If we go that route then the solenoids may be what we do after the banker revives.
The controller is a result of the neighborhood speed limits causing too much part throttle driving allowing something to overheat and not function until it cools. This just doesn't give him confidence to journey very far which is a shame since it's street legal. Hopefully this endeavor will restore his confidence and let him park his van some. Thanks for all of the info. |

Whoa whoa whoa. Red LIGHT You have a 72v resistor coil cart? That will never work for long ... you are throwing good money after bad repairing it.
IMHO you have two options : 1. upgrade to solid state speed control 2. down grade to 36 or 48 volts I hope this helps |
