Het there guys i am NEW to the forum!, I recentlt aquired my grandmothers 88? Ezgo marathon. It has a 36 volt system. It did run, but long story short, the batteries are no good. I have been calling shops around, and the best deals i have found are 6 6v New Interstate Batteries for $450 with tax And USED TROJANS that are year 05 and 06 for 235 with tax for 6. My question is Which is a better path, money is tight so i am thinking th trojans. The cart will be used for roaming at the motocross races. THANX

Re: Which batteries should I buy? Newb here
Welcome to the forum
If I bought USED anything I would load test them to be sure there was any life left in them. Check the date code stamped into the terminal to see how old they are. It will be a letter and then a number...letter is month, number is year. Thats not a bad price for the interstates I guess. Its mostly going to depend on how much driving your going to do before being able to charge it. If your not charging all weekend you should get the new batts. |

Which Interstate Batteries are you wanting? I recently bought mine (Interstate Workaholics) for $390.

Sorry to say Workaholics are cheap, cheap batteries ! Can you find one for less? Well I say you get what you pay for... Trojans are the best.... Used best or new cheapest? is that the question? Workaholics may last 3-4 yrs. Trojans 5-8 yrs it really depend upon how well you intend to care for them? The cheapies could outlast the best if the best is abused and the cheapies care properly for.......
What was the question? |

Yeah if you pay for used 2005 batts, I have a bridge and some swamp land for sale. That guy should be a$$ shamed of himself. Cheap batteries are cheap but 4-5 yr old used batts is just crazy.

Yep,i agree to somebody got rid of them for a reason,if you had 1 bad battery in a set that was 4or5 yrs old i could see putting in a good used battery.

Re: Which batteries should I buy? Newb here
This was a good thread.
There seems to be a lot of people out there trying to sell used batteries right now. The "You get what you pay for" theory seems to really apply here. I'm one of the people that fit into the catagory of having to save where I can. I know there are folks that have all the $$ they want to spend.... but I'm sure there more of us than them. Don't bow to peer pressure and only buy what everyone tells you. If it's the difference between not being able to use your cart at all and, having to buy a new battery (just not the best ones available) go for the less expensive ones and then upgrade when you have more funds. This way you can at least enjoy your cart and not get bummed about it sitting and not being used. When you get a cart, it's usually because you want something to have fun in and not spend a bunch of money. Once you start learning about your cart you find out there are all these cool toys that you want.....and then, that there are different qualities of the parts you want. I'm 'experienced' in buying chaper stuff.....and ending up cussing the cheaper parts for their lack of fit, service from the sellers, etc. BUT.... I know where your comming from and can sympathize. So, just my advice ........ do what works for you, just know it's probably gonna need to be upgraded down the road if you ever get into serious use of the cart for other than runnin around in the pits or your neighborhood Good luck with your endeavors Kev |

Re: Which batteries should I buy? Newb here
I just bought a set of Interstate 8v batteries. I found out that US Battery is the supplier/manufacturer for Interstate GC batteries( called US Batt and talked to SE sales rep) . I have 2 local cart dealers who REFUSE to sell Trojan Batts now. They've had several (10+) new batteries gone bad with in the past 3 months and Trojan refused to warranty the batts. I got mine ( 6- 8v batts )for $550 each thru a local Interstate dealer who I deal with frequently. The closet Trojan dealer was $985 for a set of 6- 8v batts. For that big of a price difference I won't drink the Trojan koolaid.
