Default New to this 48 to 72 ????

I see alot of you guys talking about 72 volts for the top end speed. What other advanages are there.

I am looking at doing this on a 48 volt club car lifted on 22 - 25" tires.

would it give me longer run time? What about torque? or is it all about speed?

You would get a substantial increase in both torque and speed. However I am not sure the CC motor will handle it???

i understand it would mean a new alltrax controller and a motor. I would change out the 6 8 volt batterys for 6 12 volts. Any one know how this would effect my run time?

It will result in less run time because the battery capacity is a little bit lower, but the real change comes from the higher power demands of a 72 volt system. Think of it like this: You have a car and you put in a slightly smaller gas tank, and a larger engine.

Get the right 12v batteries and your run time won't diminish as much as you think. I believe Andy used 6 @ 12v in his Mud Buggy and claimed 20+ mile range w/o hitting 50% DOD. He was using deep cycle trolling motor batteries IIRC. There are also other 12v batteries out there that can provide comparable run time (to 6-T105) if:

1. You have the budget for them.
2. You can shoehorn the larger footprint in the battery bay. Maybe 4 in bay and two in the bag well???

Note: Make sure you have great brakes!!!! The additional battery weight + higher speeds = need more stopping power. Front brakes would be a good idea.

Good luck. Have fun. Be safe.

But you also would add substantial weight and where would you put all of that.
