Potential upgrade to 72v
Hi all, I got a new old cart that I was thinking of upgrading to 72v via 6 12v batteries along with other needed parts :-). Before dropping more money, what kind of range and speed could I get ? It currently has a 2.1 hp motor.
I need to go about 12 miles round trip and get up to about 40 mph. What combination of motor and controller can get me the range and speed given the limited battery configuration ? or is it not possible ? attached is some pics of the cart. it has good suspension and 4 way drum brakes. another limitation is the wheels, stock golf cart, the cart can't be lifted for larger wheels thanks joe |

Re: Potential upgrade to 72v
Hey Garagebuilt, went to the site. Based on your setup, I only need to go to 48v and not to 72v to get the speed and range ? I emailed plum quick to see if I can go to 72v with the motor. Seems like it could since I see them drag racing some crazy voltage.

Re: Potential upgrade to 72v
I only have room for 6 batteries and to get the speed I figured I needed 72v. but based on the size of the 12v batteries it may not work after all. Plus the motor may not fit without some major mods to the cart. I might go to 48v with 6 - 8v batteries, but I can't find any on island. Living the middle of the pacific has some drawbacks. I'll get a better idea once I'll talk with plum quick and take a few more measurements. The motor would fit, but I would loose my parking brake.
