Powering headlights

I have a 36v cart with headlights and off road lights powered by the #5 and #6 batteries. I want to add another set of lights.

I assume that if you run each set of lights from a different pair of batteries, you won't put such a drain on the single set as mine are configured now. My question:

Can I run one set of lights from the #1 and #2 batteries, another set of lights from the #3 and #4 batteries and another set of lights from the #5 and # 6 batteries?

yes, any two batteries in series will give you 12 volts. If you are running the lights a lot you may want to consider a 36 to 12v reducer. Then all batteries will have same drain and will charge up evenly.

Yeah, like Mike says, the only danger is getting any two much lower than the pack and then the charger will overcharge the good ones trying to bring up the low ones. The set up you describe is okay for the occasional use headlights. Sounds to me like you need a serious voltage reducer and some more lights!
