Default Basic Electrical Wiring Question

Hello all, this is my first post, so please be kind. I am starting a new project to build an Electric Go Kart. The Kart will be using a Club Car motor and Curtis Motor Controller. I have one basic question that I was wondering if someone can confirm the wiring for me?

I will be running in forward only and the diagrams that Curtis provides have a forward/reverse switch in line.

I modified the diagram and took out the switch.

I believe this is correct, but want to confirm. If I do need to switch directions, I just change the S1 and S2 wires correct?

Thanks,
Jamie McShan

Wow 40 views and no responses... oh well, I am pretty sure from looking at some other diagrams that I am correct so I am moving forward with this.

Thanks anyway...

Looks OK to me.
You may want to consider a "runaway" disconnect switch in your circuit.

On the potbox the solenoid should be connected to Normally open (NO), NOT NC. NC would engage he solenoid all the time as soon as the key is turned on, NO will only engage it when the pedal is pushed.....anyways, back to the shuttle.

I disagree Roady. When he steps on the pedal, it will release the lever on the micro thus closing the circuit if it's wired for NC. If it was wired NO when the pedal was pressed it would open the circuit instead.

Roady is right, NO is open with the pedal at rest, and closes with any movement of the lever. If you had NC the solenoid would be energized with the key and de-energized when you step on the pedal. But any design should be checked for actual operation before any test ride is done, so...get out the multimeter before you try to drive it, and make sure that all parts are doing the job that you want them to do. A custom build requires attention to detail and lots of measurements and verifications.

Disregard!!!

I see that your drawing is from the curtis manual. If you are using the same POT, then wire it as shown in the manual...then check it and make sure it works the way you want it to!

Sorry Roady!

If you are not going to use reverse, and you don't need "plug braking" i.e. shifting to from fwd to rev to slow down using the throttle (think steep hill), you can eliminate the A2 to A2 wire from the controller to the motor, saves you one wire and 2 connectors.

Sorry Roady!
I forgot that the the pedal rests on the switch when it is released, effectively closing the NO circuit and opening the NC...need more coffee...
