Do I need heavy duty solenoid
i have an 97 PDS TXT. just upgraded to 400 amp controller. cart runs great but solenoid is getting very hot. did I need to replace the solenoid as well. Where would I get one? is my current solenoid letting the new control box do its job?

Re: Do I need heavy duty solenoid
Dave, are you sure its a PDS cart and not a DCS cart? Otherwise, yes you should have replaced it, it may last for a little while, but sooner or later it will fail and may cause other damages as well. Solenoids are cheap in regards the the cost of a controller. Others may have other input, but I think you should swap it out.

Re: Do I need heavy duty solenoid
Not from experience am I giving this information, but from reading what an experienced one told me..... the weaker controller could weld itself into the closed position and keep the cart running thus getting someone hurt and/or causing damage to the cart. 50.00 - 60.00 for a new solenoid? Yep.... do it!
I first thought like you... "ah, I can get by with the smaller part". Then realized that the chance wasn't worth the effort and money I had already put in my cart, and certainly wasn't worth my family getting hurt. |

guess my email notif. didn't work for this thread. thanks for the replies. yes its a PDS 07 not 97 my mistake. I suspect it does need a heavy duty solenoid like you all suggested but i don't see any 400 amp solenoids? what am i looking for ?? i've heard of this welding problem.
thanks. |

Re: Do I need heavy duty solenoid
Just check with the site sponsors, tell them what kind of controller you bought and they will get you the right solenoid for your application, also pick up a new resistor and diode while you are doing it.

Re: Do I need heavy duty solenoid
For a 400 AMP controller you would use a 200AMP White Rodgers 586 HD solenoid. Contact ScottyB and I am sure he can assist you with this item.

Re: Do I need heavy duty solenoid
200 amp MZJ is a 600amp peak unit. That will work. Don't forget a new 250ohm resistor and 1amp diode ....

Re: Do I need heavy duty solenoid
400amp controller - 200amp solenoid.. So if you are running a 500+ amp controller you would move up to a 400amp solenoid, yes?
