Default 36V & 72V with switch?

I would think this has come up befor but I can't find the info.

I have a CC that is 72v now 6X12v.

I still only hav the 36v charger whigh requires me to isolate the batteries to charge at 36v.

I still have the V-Glide and resistors. They work at this point and would be the only control system I know of, that would be compatable with both 36 &72

Here is my deal:

I take the cart to the "RV park" in the summer. They have speed limits of 15 MPH in the park. I want to drive slow in the park and fast outside the park.

Slow driving at 72v will quickly kill my resistors to melt down
I am preaty carfull now to only opperate at WOT. I limit partial throttle time to a minimum.

I think I have 2 choices:

I can get a new 72v charger, and new 72v elictronic controler which will cost me $1200-$1400

OR

I can add a "Modified" Forward and reverse switch ($50-$100)which will change the battery wiring config. from 36v to 72v. You could do this on the fly

The only thing I would need is a solinoid ($125) that would opperate on both voltages. I have allready check with "Tyco" and their product will do both.

Is this do-able?

Yes I believe so, Nate uses something similar (or did). I'll let him post it because it's his baby.

Why not swap to a pot box and a 48-72 volt controller? The pot box doesn't care how fast or slow you drive. It works off OHM'S to the controller. The daul switch will work but it will take a lot of rewiring to get all the cables hooked up.

Either way I will be doing a lot of work. I enjoy this kind of work though.

I can add a pot, controller and a 72V charger but this is much more costly then just adding a switch

You can charge the 72 volt system with a 36 volt charger. 3 x 12 = 36volts. Use the same charger on both sets of 3 so they get the same kind of charge. 12 volts will get out of balance faster than a 6 or 8 volt also so keep a good eye on them and check them often. I put a cut off in the cable between the first 3 batteries just because I had it. You don't have to isolate the 2 sets to charge them. I have a plug on each set of 3. The pot box will work on 36, 48 or 72 either way.
You could put a seperate key switch so it only activates the 48 volts when you want to drive it slow.

Well I thought I maybe helping...sorry!
Done
BLWN BUX,
Using the V-Glide on 72 volts is not very wise. I know for a fact. You need to swap it out for a Pot Box. Trust me. The pot Box can run at any speed for any amount of time and it want hurt it. The contacts in the v-glide will weld together after awhile and if they do it wide open HOLD on! I assume the V-glide is the old type since you have the coils. You can ditch the coils with the pot box also no need for them. You will get much better performance out of the cart also. The benifits are so much more with the pot box it's worth every penny spent.
Just for your thinking yes a new selonoid will do what you want but all you need is a seperate 48 volt one. If you want to go that way. Unless you plan to use the same one for both voltages.

I'm sorry if I miss understood you.
I have been running 72 volts now for a couple of years. I have a good friend that most know as Ceberus on other forums and his old cart Bristol. It fried the V-Glide on 48 volts so be very carefull with the 72 volts. His cart ran into the wall of his shop... that's all I'll say about it.
