Series or Regen?
I am buying a 97 ez go for next to nothing. It is currently a DCS cart. A shell of a cart... great starting point for what I want. I am up grading it to 48v and a LARGE controller (and cables). I am going to lift it and run about 23" tires. Mainly for around the neighborhood, but will also be used off road and on my hunting lease... not that steep. Question is, Scotty said I should go with a series cart, but I'm not sure why. Will a Regen not work? My brother has a PDS that works great at 36V and 400a. I want about 25mph tops and decent torque. Mostly I want to know the best combo before I start dropping $.... Please try to be specific, not just "Go with a series". If a series is best I will set it up that way from the start. I'm not a newby, but want good advise from people who have experience. BTW, I am planning on running 8-6v for better performance and range. Thanks in advance.

Re: Series or Regen?
The reason everybody who knows a golf cart from a hole in the ground suggests a Series cart for off road & hunting is because Sepex (Regen) motors tend to build heat, lots of heat, at low speeds in a torque situation...Just adding big tires keeps them in a torque situation all the time... They are made to fly down the fairway not creep along the creek looking for game. Add big tires and hills to the creeping thing and you got a campfire under your seat. The heat breaks down the epoxy on the commutator and eventually you get a major 'come apart' when you wind her up.... I hope that is specific enough...

Scotty, PLEASE don't take what I wrote the wrong way, I just didn't understand completely. If I didn't respect youre advise, I wouldn't be concerned about your last advise. Will you recommend an aftermarket motor for the cart and I will turn it into a "fleet, series" cart and go from there.... Any other advise??? Size controller etc? Thanks in advance!

Re: Series or Regen?
Yes I can put together a package that will do what ever it is you want the cart to do. Email me and lets discuss how you want to outfit the cart and what you want it to do in what environment.

Re: Series or Regen?
You will not regret going with the series setup as I just got through building my cart for the same purpose you are building yours for.

Re: Series or Regen?
I know the series is better for torque, What speed can you get out of a series motor with the mentioned set-up? (48v/500a, 23" tires)? Thanks.

Re: Series or Regen?
I am getting about 18-19 mph with a very similar setup: Plumb Quick Motor, 48v, Alltrax 4855, 4g wires, HD solenoid and F&R, 22" Tires. You should consider the Plowman's Posi unit, I installed it in about 30 minutes and it works perfect for the woods.
