Just hit the 200 mile mark and its still going strong.

Roady, thanks for pointing out that ADC motor.

I believe I will settle for 120 volts. That should be enough to match the performance of the ice. I'm getting a loan to buy all the new parts, should be another week. How many amp controller do you really need for something like this? I like the price of this one but is 400 amps enough? The 600 amp 120v controller is $200 more.

For my car would it be better to use a DC to DC converter like this one or a 12 volt battery to run the lights and accessories?

The 12 volt battery is doing its job right now and I rarely have to charge it but it would be nice to save some weight up front. I'm only concerned about the DC to DC converter draining my mileage when the lights, heater, wipers and radio are on.

Video of the cars first day running on electric. The batteries were in the passenger seat and 6 ga jumper cables connecting the pack. I hit 200 miles today btw.

"Filling up my car". It was a good feeling driving past the pump and the $3.90 gallon gas on the way home today.

Just like a golf cart electronic speed control...get the biggest one you can afford. You know as well as I do that you will strive for more power somewhere along the lines so you may as well bite the bullet and get it. At least then when you start upgrading again it won't hit your pocketbook as bad.

They way I see it....if you end up wanting a higher power motor (you will) that motor may "Require" alot more amps than your controller can provide. If you already have it you won't have to buy another one. LOL!

400 amps probably too low then isn't it for any satisfaction?

I think the 400 amp 120 volt unit will work but I don't know how well it will work. No doubt the 600 amp unit will work. As voltage increases your amp draw gets lower. The higher voltage/lower amperage ratio I don't know exactly. I think a general rule of thumb is double your voltage and reduce the amp load by half is the norm.

Something that would require 600 amps at 48 volts would only require 300 amps at 96 volts.....and 225 amps at 144 volts....something like that. You might check some of the ev forums and get a hint at what kind of power is needed.

Thanks Roady! You're right about going with the bigger controller the first time instead of a small now and then have to buy again later.

Do you know if the stock golf cart motor will handle 96-120 volts constantly?
