Basic info on electric carts
New to golf carts (and BGW) and am currently leaning towards an electric 4 seater. Also interested in customizing (more powerful motor/controller, lift, bigger wheels, etc). Live in a fairly hilly neighborhood and have concern that I will need the extra power when fully loaded with family.
Would like to find some info on the differences between the major makes (Club Car, Ez-Go, Yamaha, etc.) and the ease, availability, and pricing of modifications and parts. Is there a specific forum or other resource where I can get this type of info? |

Re: Basic info on electric carts
There are 3 major makers of golf carts' Ezgo, Club Car, & Yamaha. They are the Ford, Chevy, & Dodge of the golf cart world. You can get part & anything aftermarket for any of these makes.
Stay with the 1990 era and up for really easy access to parts and aftermarket fun stuff. Hope this helps. |

Re: Basic info on electric carts
That helps me. Sorry to hyjack the trend but what are some things to watch out for in the 90s era carts? Like better systems or parts that always break to stay away from? Or maybe who's drive system is friendlier to the diy kinda person?

Re: Basic info on electric carts
In the nineties ezgo and Yamaha went to Solid State speed control systems exclusively. Club Car continuted to make carts with the old resistor coil systems for golf course application up to 2004. So they made both SS and resistor coil carts at the same time.
Solid state is much better & easier to upgrade. |

Re: Basic info on electric carts
Ok cool so look for a yamaha or ezgo. As far as models what do they usually mean? It seems like ezgo has a bunch of models as well as yamaha but what are the designations and what do they mean/stand for

Re: Basic info on electric carts
yes welcome tko, but you did hijack the thread. get off on the right foot by starting your own thread in either the ez-go forums or the yami ones. best bet is to go to these forums and read the stickies at the top. this will clear up some of your questions. it's a little hard for everyone in the beginning, but there is plenty of info here. also the seach function is great. good luck.
