72v question

Is a reversing contactor necessary for the f/r operation or will a hd f/r switch suffice? I'm taking notes and trying to get all my ducks in a row so when I'm able to start my other cart I won't have any surprises. I got a good friend that's an Interstate battery AND an Alltrax dealer. I'm looking at spending $1000 for the big SPM 72V Alltrax controller and 9 HD 8v greentops.

I see no reason for a reversing contactor unless you wanted one.
I don't know if my 90 marathon has it's original f&r switch or not (it looks like the original) but not heavy duty for sure and for the last three years it's been going on 72V with no problem. The last year of those 3 years I've been running actually 84V (and 23" dia tires). No problems for me.(actually there is less amps going through the system on high voltage but that also depends on your usage)
An HD F&R is probably a good idea regardless of the voltage.

I have been using HD switch in mine with no problems.I would go with HD if using on trails.

This is going to be a street only cart. My plans are to lower it, no top, custom paint, 72v, disc brakes and rolling on 14's with some lo-profile tires. Seeing Terry H's cart has inspired me to do a street cart. I also want a Jakes sport shifter to give it that hot rod look. it will take awhile to get this done, it'll be hard trying to hide all the money from my wife to do this. Hoping to have it done by next summer.

72v_ezgo, is your f/r switch like what's in a txt? With linkage/rod that runs down to a switch? Not familiar with the marathons but the cart I will be doing is an all stock 97 series TXT. And thanks for all the replys guys.

You can hide the $ going into it but one day they look at the cart and look at you .... and look at the cart & look at you ...... believe me, I know they know

No linkage. Mounted on the front vertical seat support (behind knee) with the shaft of it sticking through the hole and the handle mounts directly on it.
