Best "torque" motor
2007 EZGO txt, 23" tires, 48 volt conversion. Want to achieve hunting buggy performance. I want as much torque as possible (without going below an 18mph top speed), as the terrain is quite hilly and I'll probably push snow off the driveway with it also. I have done, what I would call, a fair amount of research for this set up. I think I've even spoke to some of you via other internet means, but am still puzzled as to which motor to go with. I would like to get a popular vote on my 3 motor options. Plum Quick "torque", GE "Beast", D&D 010-02 torque motor? Hopefully a lot of you can recommend based on experience, not hear say. Also, what size controller? I've been told 500 amp and 700 amp. Usually bigger is better, but is it?

Re: Best "torque" motor
Realize that the best torque motor is probably not going to give a lot of speed.
I have a 10hp torque motor in my 48v Ezgo industrial... She is a beast & will carry a VW and pull a truck at the same time. 12mph loaded or empty .... up or down hill (nearly) I too am curious to see what you can dig up here? |

Re: Best "torque" motor
Yeah Scotty, I do know you loose speed to gain torque and vise versa. This seems to be part of my confusion. Some say speeds like what your saying, and others have told me 20+mph. I know when I called PQ they told me around 20mph with 700amp cntrl. and their "torque" motor. It wasn't just PQ either. I believe the people that make the Beast 48 cart also claimed speeds around there, and that cart has the "Beast" motor in it. Just kinda want to get others feedback to make a decision on which way to go. Again, I hope people will reply with recommendations based on personal experience and not just what they read or are told. We'll see what we come up with.

Re: Best "torque" motor
I have seen all the motors in action first hand. There is nothing wrong with any of them and they are all impressive. I got to talk with the guys from The Beast last year and drove their carts. I have also meet the guys at PQ personally and have one of their motors and controllers. Personally I will have to stick with PQ because when I had problems with my dads cart and no one local could figure it out, Robby did. The guys at The Beast are good guys also. They are just GOOD OLE GEORGIA BOYS. They put together quality carts, both electric and gas. But, they don't make anything. They just have their name put on stuff.
I am by no means a expert on these things, but I have seen and drove each of the 3 you mentioned. |

Re: Best "torque" motor
This is a D&D motor on 72 volts it's never seen 36 are 48 but it can run on them. Not in my carts though!
This motor has been used on a regular bases since I bought it for the 95 Bonanza and it's still being used in my Monster Cart. It has ton of torque and on 72 volts stock gears and 6-12 volt batteries, Yes 12 volts it ran 22MPH and would pull a train if I wanted it to. Thanks to Carson & Robby they both said back in 95 when I bought the motor they didn't have anything for what I wanted and I have been a true customer ever since for the honesty of them. If they can't build you a motor they will tell you straight up. I now have a Plum Quick high torque motor I plan to swap out with the D&D motor now. I'm hoping to get the D&D motor redone by PQ so I'll have another monster torque motor when I need it. |

Re: Best "torque" motor
Andy, roughly how much run time do you get with your (6) 12s?

Re: Best "torque" motor
Assuming you have 48v worth of batteries:
Controller, solenoid, resistor, & charger. Assuming you want the new increased amperage/voltage to flow properly indefinitely: Cables & F&R upgrade. Nice thread hijack |
