Default Can a 5th battery be added?

I have a 2009 ezgo rxv with all stock electronics. It has 4 12volt batteries to get the required 48 volts. Being it converts to AC makes me even less qualified to even touch this thing but I have a question anyways. I have added electronics like lights, radio, 12volt port, and wish to add a little more. I found room on the drivers side to add a deep cycle optima battery and was wondering could this battery be hooked parallel to the series to maintain 48 volts or would this disrupt the cart or should I just add the battery and leave it independent from the carts wiring and use a 12 volt charger?

Not a expert on these new AC carts but I wouldn't tie it into the pack at all for the 48 volts to make it 60.

You can how ever use it in parrellell with the pack to quick charge it if it goes dead.

Yeah I know I don't wish to make it 60 volt. But I have not heard of adding an extra battery in a parallel circuit. Positive to positive. In my head at least that would maintain 48 volts and give the system a little more distance. It would also be easier to recharge rather than having to lift the seat and hook up a second independent system for recharge. I know this forum has a lot of knowledgeable members.

Cool Re: Can a 5th battery be added?

The battery will not charge well if you charge it with the cart charger. The battery it's tied to want either.

I would charge it seperate and have a set of cables tied to the pack battery just in case your 12 volt battery goes dead.
I do this with my 04 cart so if the kids leave the radio are lights on all I have to do is screw the knob in and it self charges of the pack.

I put one of these on the + or the - of the 12 volt and if I get on the cart and it's dead I just screw the knob in and it has a quick charge to it.

I really like your idea. I was worried about the charge as well. I was going to make a second quick disconnect for the independent charger as well. What is the technical name of those terminals?

I would not recommend charging an accessory battery from your main battery pack. It will unbalance the pack, Causing three of the batteries to overcharge, and the one that has the accessory battery will be undercharged! You can get a male plug for your 12V port that you can use with your 12V charger to make it more user friendly! This way you need to do nothing but plug in your 12V charger and turn it on. As a bonus, the 12V ports are usually fused.

Wink Re: Can a 5th battery be added?

simple man,

This is not for regular charging as I stated in my other post it's for only when your 12 volt is dead and need it in a emergancy.
This will not effect the pack so much if done only in emergency cases.
It will take a few times to get the pack out of balance if you did use it regularly though. The emergancy charge want effect the pack. It would be the same thing as to having the batteries running a radio are lights.
I have had this setup for years on my 04 PDS cart and the batteries are fine. I have never had them out of balance.

Cool Re: Can a 5th battery be added?

I bought the last ones at O-rielly's auto parts. There are a couple of differant ones just do a google search for battery quick disconnects for 12 volts. They aren't much good on anything over about 16 volts.
