Race car towing power. Searched but still need some direction
Hey everyone.
I have searched around and read a good bit of info on power and speed upgrades but I am looking for a little more as far as direction. I believe I have a older EZGO series cart. Bad pic included. Its 36v, big switch under seat area for forward and reverse. I have new batteries but the cart just doesn't' pull my race car in the pits like I want. I don't want to dump tons of money into this old girl but it needs something. Motor? Controller and appropriate upgrades? Its pretty slow top speed too and my GF needs a bit more speed when driving down to the end of the track to pick me up and then of course it tows pretty slow. Looking for recommendations. More speed is good but I can't sacrifice towing my 2850lb Vega on flat pavement. Thx everyone! |

Re: Race car towing power. Searched but still need some direction
I think I am leaning to an upgrade to a solid state speed controller and the stock motor but that is more than just a motor. That is assuming I know what I have cart wise. (series)
I did see some kits for like 475 around here. I have the link on my laptop at home though. Will the speed controller give me speed and pulling power while staying at 36v or am I beating a dead horse here. |

She is more of a mule than a horse You have an old Marathon, resistor coil series cart. It wastes as much power(amperage) as it delivers to the motor.
Conversion to electronic speed control (ESC) will allow the cart to run efficiently(no waste)but it will not change speed. Increasing the voltage will increase torque and speed. A 48v upgrade would wake the cart up and increase both speed and torque by 30%. Can you post a picture of the battery bay? |

I did a 48 volt conversion on mine for the same purpose. Bought a controller solenoid fnr switch from Scotty. larger wheels and tires for some speed also.
Went 700 on the controller amps Pulled the 57 like it wasnt behind it! |

One problem is them battery cables, those are car cables NOT cart cables, your loosing a lot of amps, that cart has a controller, so your up grade will be easier

Re: Race car towing power. Searched but still need some direction
Rib is right.
Basically you need to allow the motor to access more amperage for the pulling the race car and feed it more voltage if you want it to spin faster (more speed) Typically a 48v system with a 500a controller and super-duty solenoid like our pkg. #202B on 48v is what you need. You can run 6/8v or 8/6v batteries to make 48v. |

Re: Race car towing power. Searched but still need some direction
Ok this is the direction I thought I was going. I already have new 6v batteries so I'm stuck with those. Where is this package #202B you are speaking of?
Can I run this kind of stuff on 36v and in time drop 2 more batteries into the system? |
