Here's my idea. Would it be possible to add my accessory battery into the pack at wide open throttle using a switch on the pedal? If so, would I use a contactor or additional solenoid or what. Even after all of this time I am still electrically stupid on these carts.

I started thinking about this because after the high speed gear experiment I can actually see the pack pull down to about 40v on the hit of the throttle. The voltage recovers quickly after the initial launch but voltage at wide open throttle stays far enough below 48 that I could concieveably add the 12 or so volts from the accessory battery and still stay safely below the 60 volt over volt setting on the controller if I only knew how to do it. I already have seperate charging systems so the way that I see it if this would work it should be a fairly cheap way to get a little more out of the cart for racing and general wide open throttle pucker.

Thoughts? .......besides that I'm crazy. We've already established that.

He will be going 72 volts and beyond before it's over!

The issue is that I can't just add the 12v battery into the pack permanently because it overvolts the controller. Adding the extra battery puts me at about 64 volts at rest. I need a way to add it after the pedal is pushed and the voltage drops below 48 in the main pack. That's why I thought that if I could wire a switch on the pedal that would activate a contactor or additional solenoid at wide open throttle only it would work well and gain me some extra top end.

I've considered adding a 6v battery or even an 8v battery permanently into the pack but it makes more sense to just add the accessory battery in a wide open throttle only configuration. I already have it and it has it's own charger. I just don't know how to do it.

I'm not positive on how much it would increase the performance but surely 25% more voltage would have to be a decent gain.

I understand what you are saying Andy and I'd love to just connect it permanently into the pack but the controller won't activate in the first place if it's overvolted will it?

Why not add a bypass into the mix as we did on Chevy's cart. This would give you more bang for the buck than a 12 volt I would think.
You wouldn't have to do nothing other than add another solenoid and 2 more #1 cables and the micro switch with wiring for a quick connect as Chevy did are as I did mine, hard mounted at full pedal travel.
To me this is better opition than the 12 volt.
Have you seen Chevy's video of his cart since we added it?
48 volts is not going to react like 72 but it will make you notice it when you hit it!
