Alot more money than any cart is worth. Measure the difference in voltage between B- and M- when the solenoid just engages. You should only see a few volts difference. This will tell you the voltage drop in the controller. (This is not the same test as I mentioned earlier but it might help) Any more than a few volts and the controller has issues.

I am guessing, just a guess; that your neighbour has a Shunt/regen system. and even if he is using the stock motor on 48v. He will get unbelieveable speeds out of his cart, if he has the controller setup to enable turbo mode wich tweeks the field strength when the pedal has reached 100% for more than a second. Something that cant be done on a series system unless you upgrade the motor for speed, which the coils are winded differently for speed or torque..
Im running a alltrax dcx 500 controller on a stock motor on 48v for almost 2 years now, and am getting about 65km/h or 40mph out of my system. It will go more if you give it time, but im not that crazy to go any faster, next year im getting a torque tuned motor for my cart, im more into spinning my tires in our park then zipping around at 40 and hit a kid or pee off old people. |

His cart does have the regen system but it is 36v.When he adds the old 12v deep cycle his cart does 29mph on gps.

This may or may not help, but it is good information to have. The motor you have is rated at 3.5HP @ 36V, 18Mph; and 5.5HP @ 48V, 23Mph. It sounds you neighbor may have a programable controller to boost his speed, a modified motor, or a high speed gear set in the differential.

There may be some screws/access holes on the side. If it doesn't have them it cant be touched, sorry.

I looked and did'nt see anything on the sides but did see what looks like rubber or plastic plugs on the bottom.I have not had time to investigate. Looks like i need to spend some more money but i don't know what to spend it on.
