Heavy Duty Solenoids
I need a couple of very heavy duty, 6 post, double throw, solenoids for my modified Yamaha golf cart. The ones that I am using are White Rodgers 586-320111’s that have a rating of 600 Amp in-rush and 200 Amp continuous (supposedly the heaviest duty ones available). My guess is that I need some industrial ones from a different application. After upgrading my power setup, these WR solenoids are running very hot and I am afraid they may internally weld themselves not allowing me to power off.
Any ideas? Thanks. |

Re: Heavy Duty Solenoids
Unfortunaltey the one you found is not a 6 terminal, double throw, unit but I'll check with that distributor tomorrow to see if they carry the 6 terminal ones in the higher rated models.
The reason that I need the 6 terminal, double throw solenoids is that orginal fabricator of the cart, a Yamaha E22, used a three solenoid array to convert the cart so it would run a Series motor. (I guess the Series motor had more power than the stock one). The first, "master solenoid", is a normal 4 post unit and the other two have 6 posts. The three are cable in together, but I don't understand the logic of how it was done. The co. that I bought the new motor from said I had to keep the soenoids cabled in that fashion or it would not work. |

Good luck with help at Allied, I spoke with a twenty something kid who had the "I'm just doing my job" mentality. They have a pretty good search engine though.......
I now understand your screen name |

Re: Heavy Duty Solenoids
Do you have the F/R handle are is it a switch?
I'm thinking they use the 2 Contactors for the F/R switching. Series motor's all work the same way. The cables have no bearing on if it's series are not motor. Pictures would help a lot and if it is being used in the F/R way I can save you a lot of money on contactors and give you 400 amp cont with 1000 amp in rush. |

Re: Heavy Duty Solenoids
Indeed, I belive you are right, there isn't a manual FR switch. All I have is a small electrical switch that controls FR.
Now, I seem to recall that the cart guy told me the stock manual one would not support the current that involved with my first set-up: 550 A controller and about a 5 hp motor. (the new set-up is 850A and 9 hp continuous) I hope this helps... |

Re: Heavy Duty Solenoids
U want a F/R conyactor. I don't know how your cart is wired but I have a 72 volt and a 48 volt cart running these F/R contactors with no problems.
U need to look at my thread here. You will find everything you need. http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/extre...omponents.html |

Andy
Your link doesn't give a part number (that I saw) or a link for where to get a F/R contactor.... Can you post that info? I want to shorten my cable runs. Thanks, Gary |

Heres a sw202 clone: http://evdrives.com/contactors_SW202.html
The one in Andy's post looks like the Albright DC182. 200A constant. -sj |
