Default Precedent with Motor upgrade ???

Hey Guys

Looking for your input on this one. We sold a cart to a customer, it is a 2007 CC Precedent, 6" lift 25" rubber, brand new Trojans, hydraulic front discs, rear seat kit etc...

We delivered it to the customers home and when we arrived, I had never seen a driveway so steep in my life. So we slowly came down the driveway/cliff and delivered the cart. At that time we told the customer this was the steepest we have ever seen, and he said, oh really, let me show you where we need to use the cart. IT GOT STEEPER!!!

His neighbors were complaining about his side x sides making noise at night so he needed an electric cart to keep them happy, the purpose of the cart is to carry people from the house down the extremely steep Z brick driveway to the boat and dock, and then back up again.

Well with the stock setup he emailed me a couple days later and asked if there was something we could do to improve performance as the cart will only drag bring one person up the steep section from the boat to the house, which is useless for is application.

So we explained to him that the best option was to do a motor and controller upgrade. He was all for that, so we installed an Alltrax 500amp controller and an Admiral 10hp motor for hills and offroad, along with 4 gauge cables, HD solenoid, fuse etc... We delivered the cart off yesterday and this time we decided to try the steep area again while we were there, so we put two of us in it and it barely crawled up the hill????

Our thoughts were that going from the stock motor and controller to a 500amp alltrax and 10hp Admiral motor, this thing should zoom up the hill. Are we expecting to much from this cart, is there just certain limitations that the cart won't meet regardless of what we do? This is the first time using an admiral, in the past we have used D&D, but like we mentioned we have never seen anything so steep?

Look forward to your feed back on this.

Just to be honest it sounds like they need a trolly with an electric winch. We use them around some of our lakes here in Oklahoma. If they are complaining about his sideXside then he must be having to mash the accelerator on that too. What percent grade do you think this is and what length of a haul are we talking about?

Thanks for your feedback! I would estimate it to be around a 28% - 30% grade which goes for about 275' then flattens out at the house, then turns into about 20% grade with switch backs for a the driveway. So it's quite a haul.

If you had good success with d& d why did you switch to a different brand? I would get a d&d torque motor and ditch the 25s they are killing your torque. Better off with 22s!!

To be honest we haven't been wowed by the D & D performance, they are absolutely great guys to deal with. We decided to try another brand, but we are now feeling it is more just a limit thing with the power the carts provide without going extreme custom, or at least going with a higher voltage then 48. I agree the 25 are certainly not helping anything.

Thanks for your input!

FYI vic at d&d told me absolutely NOT to run 25s. Really didnt even suggest 23s. Told me to stick with 22s. But torque is what you need to get up that hill, not horsepower!

Yes your right, the torque is important. We purchased a torque motor as well. We just have to stay within the limits of what we are working with, I believe this is the solution. Once again thanks for your input on the tires!

Thought we would give an update to this thread. Before we got to crazy with everything we asked the customer to try charging the cart.

Problem solved! Imagine that.

I have a similar setup with the 500A Alltrax and the D&D Torque&Speed focus motor with 23 inch Swamp Foxes (when hunting) on an 07 Precedent. There is a hill at our lease that is very similar to what you are describing, except ours is a rutted dirt track for most of the way. My cart makes it up that hill with ease with 2 people and gear. I will say that it does slow down a good bit from flat ground, but it pulls like noones business.
