Good question...but why would ANY of your brake cables smoke. Seriously though....I can't think of a reason, none of it makes sense unless you throw in a motor short. The other side may be insulated better....possibly broken unless your sure they both work. I can't even say for sure your motor has a short but you have checked everything else so.....

Thanks Roady. At least I know I'm special, cause only problems like mine happen to special people. I'm gonna order the new HD f/r switch. If that doesn't work, look for a parts sale shortly thereafter. Thanks again, Mike

Didn't we have this problem with Mikes other cart? Or what was it?

Yes Scotty, i had the melting brake cable problem before. But I arrived back to deer camp to work on cart, checked it out, found no problems, installed new brake cable, and yes I have problems. I melted new cable too.
Like previous post, this cart is getting close to a fish structure.

No, you guys will figure it out. What roady says makes sense. Wish you had access to another good motor. There have gotta be some around where you are.

My cart did the smae thing it burnt through my drivers side cable but not the passenger side on the dual pull part of it.My motor has a short also and i would always have to replace a resistor or put in new contacts on the wiper board, After reading this do you think my best bet is to get the motor rebuilt or tear the thing apart and replace the part?Ive got nothing to lose of this motor if i mess it up.

I got called into work Friday morning, so I had no chance to check my motor. I probably won't get chance to get back to camp till Sept. Sure would like to get running before deer season. Long distance repair is slow to complete.
Caddy, I have no advice for you. I'm in the dark also, but good luck with your cart.

Did you ever find out if the motor was shorting out internally?

hopefully i will get to camp next weekend. How can I test for a field short using jumper cables(all of my batteries are removed for now)? POS to where, Neg to where, and where a volt meter probes attached. My guess on volt meter from previous explanation, red to motor casing, black to frame. I assume I might need to try to move/torque motor around. Thanks for any advice. I talked to EMP today and they will rebuild motor for $250. They suggested having armmature banded if I'm going to run 72v. Is this a normal high rpm process and what does it do?
