Hill Help?
I have a 48 volt converted series cart with 700 amp controller, and PQ big torque (black widow) motor. FNR, cables, and solenoid have all been upgraded also. So my issue isn't take off torque, but rather the lack of power on big hills. My neighborhood is very hilly (average hill is probably 13% grade) and at full charge (53 volts or so) I see the voltage drop to 44-43 volts at times, and the cart seems to loose alot of steam. I know it's the nature of the beast to loose power on inclines, but it seems excessive to me. According to EZGO my cart has a 12.44-1 rearend gear ratio. I have a rearend out of an EZGO workhorse which has a 14.7-1 gear ratio. Would swapping rearends help me with this mid hill slow I'm experiencing? Or would a 72 volt upgrade be a better solution?

Re: Hill Help?
Everyone knows I'm not a sparky expert, but with all the goodies you've added for torque, I would think you'd fly up hills. Could you have a weak battery that is dropping when under severe load? A volt meter installed on each battery (then run the hill) and check for severe voltage drop. You could also check hydrometer reading on each battery cell. Just a thought.

Re: Hill Help?
I have not checked individual batteries for voltage drop. I guess with them being relatively new, I'm asuming it's not them. Maybe I shouldn't assume, and just check'em.

Re: Hill Help?
All it takes is one bad cell in one battery to cause your problem. What brand batteries and how old are they?

Re: Hill Help?
Anyone have any good suggestions for a selector switch that I can wire ahead of my voltmeter, so I can read each individual battery or the whole pack?

Re: Hill Help?
A volt meter with long leads help in this situation. Another way to test them, jack up the back end, push on the accelerator and check for voltage drop. To simulate a load, lightly push on the brake pedal. Did you do hydrometer readings?

Re: Hill Help?
What kind of F/R are you running? You said it was a H/D one. Does it have the old style F/R handle still like this.
It still pushes the voltage through those two small screws and they want handle a lot of amps are voltage. I would think one of the batteries is the problem with the voltage you posted. What kind of charger are u using and what is the final voltage after it's fully charged? |

I have a similar setup as you with a 650 all trx a custom D&D motor and I can go up any hill around even straight up a tree

Re: Hill Help?
Get some alligator clips on your meter and give those individual battery load test readings... we need those first.
